The Opportunity

Save the Children International is seeking a Youth Engagement Advisor for the newly USAID-funded OSRA program.

The OSRA program is five-year Pathfinder-led USAID-funded project. The goal of the OSRA program is to improve family health outcomes by reinforcing the national family planning and reproductive health (FP/RH) program in partnership with the Ministry of Health and Population (MOHP). The OSRA program will achieve this purpose through the three pivotal results: 1) Women’s and men’s uptake and continuation of voluntary family planning services increased; 2) Youth equipped with knowledge and skills necessary to make healthy life choices; and 3) Gender dynamics improved for enhanced voluntary family planning and reproductive health outcomes. The OSRA program will closely collaborate with different local stakeholders and other Government of Egypt (GOE) entities to attain its results.

The Youth Engagement Advisor will work closely with the Positive Youth Development Team Lead (PYD) to provide technical assistance to design, implement and monitor integrated youth FP/RH activities at the health service and community levels. The Youth Engagement Advisor will lead in the design/ adaptation, implementation and monitoring of age- and life stage tailored youth FP/RH behaviour change activities under the OSRA program. S/he will work with the OSRA Social Behaviour Change (SBC) and Youth teams to develop interventions and innovative approaches that will increase meaningful youth engagement to address youth’s needs and realities and better equip youth for current and future community leadership. The Youth Engagement Advisor will ensure that interventions use best practices to engage youth in the program and provide strategic technical guidance on youth integration to project staff, government officials, and community stakeholders project partners and stakeholders.

The Youth Engagement Advisor will work under the direction of the Positive Youth Development Team Lead (PYD). She/he will also be indirectly backstopped by an Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health (ASRH) Advisor based at Save the Children US on technical matters related to FP/RH youth activities.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Essential

 Master’s Degree in public health, development field or a related field;
 At least Eight years of professional experience in youth health programming, working with communities and health systems to improve youth responsiveness.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

 Excellent knowledge of adolescent and youth family planning and reproductive health programming
 Deep understanding of principles, best practices, approaches and methodology related to youth engagement.
 Familiarity with USAID’s adolescent and youth priorities as well as regulations, compliance and reporting requirements
 Expertise on positive youth development approaches, social and gender norms, and family planning programming for adolescents and youth.
 Familiarity with evidence-based gender transformative approaches targeting adolescents and youth, their families and communities and experience with designing/adapting these approaches to the relevant context(s).
 Experience working in institutions with a focus on serving the needs of youth.
 Demonstrated experience designing and facilitating capacity strengthening workshops and mentoring.
 Ability to think strategically to solve problems and find effective ways to accomplish goals
 Well-developed communication skills across cultures
 Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work as a team player and independently
 Experience in representation with international bodies, government and funders
 Experience working in Egypt and/or the broader Middle East and North Africa (MENA ) region.
 Excellent written and oral communication skills
 Fluency in Arabic and English (written and spoken)
 Ability to work under pressure and deliver results with tight deadlines
