The Opportunity

Save the Children International is seeking a Gender Based Violence (GBV) Advisor for the newly USAID-funded OSRA program. The OSRA program is five-year Pathfinder-led USAID-funded project. The goal of the OSRA program is to improve family health outcomes by reinforcing the national family planning and reproductive health (FP/RH) program in partnership with the Ministry of Health and Population (MOHP). The OSRA program will achieve this purpose through the three pivotal results: 1) Women’s and men’s uptake and continuation of voluntary family planning services increased; 2) Youth equipped with knowledge and skills necessary to make healthy life choices; and 3) Gender dynamics improved for enhanced voluntary family planning and reproductive health outcomes. The OSRA program will closely collaborate with different local stakeholders and other Government of Egypt (GOE) entities to attain its results.

The GBV Advisor will work closely with technical leads to provide technical assistance to design, implement and monitor integrated GBV activities at the health service and community levels. The GBV Advisor will support the project to ensure that activities account for and address the different needs and inequalities experienced by individuals to ensure equitable participation in project activities. They will support the design, implementation, and monitoring of gender-sensitive and -transformative approaches. The GBV Advisor will provide onsite technical assistance and capacity strengthening to project staff and partners, including state and local partners. They will advise on preventing and responding to GBV through project activities.

The GBV will work under the direction of the Gender and Inclusion Team lead. She/he will also be indirectly backstopped on technical matters related to FP/RH gender activities by a Gender Advisor based at Save the Children US.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Essential

 Master’s Degree in public health, sociology, gender dynamics/studies, international development, or a similar field.
 At least eight years of technical expertise in gender, GBV with deep understanding of principles, best practices, approaches and methodology related to gender and GBV
 Demonstrated experience collecting and Analyzing gender data
 Ability to collaborate with and work across multiple teams
 Excellent written communication and presentation skills in English and Arabic. Advisor should be able to communicate at the local level
 Experience working in Egypt and/or the broader Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.
 Experience interacting with in-country agencies, including central and local government, development partners, civil society, and community-based organizations.
 Experience working with USAID projects or other international donors’ projects.
 Demonstrated experience designing and facilitating capacity strengthening workshops and mentoring.
Desirable

 Familiarity with USAID’s gender and GBV priorities as well as regulations, compliance and reporting requirements.

 Experience working in institutions with a focus on serving the needs of (youth)
 Ability to think strategically to solve problems and find effective ways to accomplish goals
 Well-developed communication skills across cultures
 Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work as a team player and independently
 Experience in representation with international bodies, government and funders
 Excellent written and oral communication skills
